With the blind auditions complete
and their teams chosen, The Voice
coaches are now forced to pit their contestants against each other.
The battle rounds begin on the NBC singing competition Monday as Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera
, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton
each choose two contestants from their teams to face off in head-to-head "duet battles." Only one singer will remain in the competition.
Weeks of battle rounds will reduce the remaining 48 contestants to just 24. Here are a handful of the contestants performing on Monday:
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Angie Johnson, 31, was asked to audition for The Voice
after host Carson Daly found a YouTube video
of Johnson performing for the troops abroad.
"I didn't know it existed until two days later," Johnson tells PEOPLE of the video that now has over 2.5 million views. "It was at 10 p.m. and the night crew was helping us [load up our things]. They never get to partake in the entertainment so we asked their supervisor if we could take a break and jam out with them."
Johnson will face off against Cheesa, 21, as they perform "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Cheesa moved from Hawaii to Los Angeles when she was 15 to pursue singing. She was chosen for Team Cee Lo after her performance of "If I Were a Boy."
Jesse Campbell, 42, got all four coaches to turn their chairs around when he sang "A Song For You" during the blind auditions. The single dad chose to join Team Christina and will be mentored by singer Lionel Richie before the duet battle against teammate Anthony Evans, 33.
Tony Lucca was also chosen by all the coaches, including Aguilera who costarred with him
on The Mickey Mouse Club
. But it was Levine who snatched him up. The seasoned performer, 36, will battle it out against a fellow member of Team Adam whose identity has yet to be revealed.
