Now headed for the small screen is The Carrie Diaries, based on the 2010 prequel by Sex author Candace Bushnell.
The pilot for the CW network will star AnnaSophia Robb, shown here for the first time in costume (designed by Sex and the City and Gossip Girl's Emmy-winning Eric Daman) as the young Carrie.
Denver native Robb, 18, already has credits that include the movies Because of Winn-Dixie and Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the leading role in 2011's Soul Surfer, in which she played real-life shark-attack victim Bethany Hamilton.
"When AnnaSophia Robb walked into the room, we knew we had found her," Amy B. Harris, writer-exec producer of The Carrie Diaries, said in a statement. "Her grace, intelligence, sense of fun and her empathetic nature make her the perfect girl to bring our young Carrie to life."
Harris added, "The fact that she loves a gorgeous pair of heels doesn’t hurt either."
Set during Carrie Bradshaw's high school years, Bushnell's novel detailed the budding fashionista's early relationships, how she began as a writer, and her very first love: the wealthy Sebastian Kydd, on whom she's had a crush since she was 12.
Also in the cast for the pilot are Running Wilde's Stefania Owen as Carrie's little sister Dorritt, as well as The Killing's Katie Findlay and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World's Ellen Wong – who will play two of Bradshaw's friends, presumably before she meets BFFs Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).
