Carrie Underwood Is Dreading Mike Fisher's 'Playoff Beard'
"I'm not looking forward to the playoff beard," she joked to PEOPLE while promoting Olay's new "Beauty by Example" campaign in New York on Thursday. "[The players] all grow out their facial hair during the playoffs."
Continued the country star: "So before they started, I told Mike, 'You need to shave close.' He always looks good with a little stubble, but it's probably going to get out of hand soon."
Underwood's retaliation? "I'm going to stop shaving, too," she said. "Just kidding!"
When she's on the road, the singer makes every effort to catch all of Fisher's Nashville Predators hockey games – even if she's not near a TV. "Sometimes I can't watch, so I have to listen to the games [on the radio], and that's horrible," she said. "But I've ... gotta cheer him on even if I'm just listening."
What's best, though, is watching Fisher's games in person, and now that he's in Nashville (traded from the Ottawa Senators in February of 2011) it's become a lot easier for the pair.
"What a blessing," Underwood said of the trade. "He could've gone to any one of 29 other teams. But Nashville loves him and he loves Nashville. And I love having him there."
Once the hockey season ends, the two plan to spend the summer together before Underwood goes on tour to promote her upcoming album, Blown Away.
"That's the bad part," she said. "Once hockey's back in session in the fall, I'll be on tour, so we will not see a whole lot of each other."
But until then, the two will savor their quiet time – and Underwood will go to as many playoff games as possible.
"It's been a lot of fun, and it's been fun learning," she said. "And the crowd in Nashville is crazy awesome."
