Dick Clark Dead at 82: Celebrity Fans Pay Tribute

Across the Twitterverse, celebrities expressed their sorrow at the passing of Dick Clark, the television icon who was dubbed "America's Oldest Teenager" and welcomed generations to a new beginning every New Year's Eve.

Responses ranged from the mournful to those that joyfully praised Clark's legacy. But many simply recalled him as a legend.

"Just heard the news [about] Dick Clark," Tweeted Mario Lopez. "It was truly an honor to have worked with him, learn from him and to be able to call him a friend. He was a great man and an even better friend."
Lopez continued. "He was a real inspiration & influence in my life. I will dearly miss my friend... Rest well DC."





Clark's other celebrity fans who took to social media to share their thoughts:

Matthew Morrison: "A sad day as we have lost Dick Clark, an American Icon. You will be missed."

Denise Richards: "My heart goes out to Dick Clark's family and loved ones ... we lost a legend.. #RIPDickClark"

Seth Green: "So saddened by Dick Clark's passing- an innovator, a legend, a man who believed in the greatness of humans. #ThankYou"

Ryan Seacrest, who took over Clark's role as the primary host of ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve after Clark suffered a stroke in 2004, paid tribute on Twitter. "I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark," Seacrest Tweeted Wednesday afternoon after hearing of his mentor's death.

Joan Rivers: "What a great career. Relevant until the end."

One longtime pal of Clark's sent his tribute the old fashioned way – by press release.

Kenny Rogers said in a statement Wednesday afternoon: "I'm one of the lucky people who can say that I knew Dick Clark personally. Dick produced almost every awards show I was on during the 80's, and he constantly encouraged me toward success. He will be missed by everyone – especially by those who knew him well."
