hasn't publicly addressed a new romance since she began dating
Boston sports agent Paul Krepelka in Dec. 2010. But now, as rumors fly of a relationship with Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, McCarthy admits she has a certain boy on the brain.
"I'm interested in someone," McCarthy said Wednesday during a Q&A at NBC Universal's Press Day at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif., while promoting Love in the Wild
, a couples competition show she hosts.
When a reporter asked if this mysterious man of interest was in fact a football player, McCarthy, 39, joked with a laugh, "I don't know what
you guys are talking about. Um, you know, we shall see."
In fact, she told Parade
magazine this week: "I'm taking baby steps ... But I'm giddy right now."
Whether it works out or not, McCarthy says she's finally learned how to be okay single.
"It took awhile," she explained. "I felt like, 'Oh, I'm so alone I have to be with somebody' ... But I got to a place where I was like ... I'm happy with myself. I don't need to have a lover to have love in my life."
And once she got to that comfortable place, "[romance] kind of worked out," she said.
But McCarthy won't be rushing into introducing any beau to her son Evan.
"I have a six-month rule," she said, revealing Evan has only met two men
since her divorce 10 years ago. "I don't introduce my son to anybody unless someone makes it six months."
