Well, here's to looking on the bright side.
There were no tears shed on Monday from Pip, the dismissed contestant
from Adam Levine's team on The Voice
. In fact, he tells PEOPLE that getting the boot is actually "really exciting."
Pip admitted that it "sounds really weird" to be so at ease with his instant elimination by Levine for an imperfect rendition of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know. But, he explains, "The pressure's off. I don't have to go on stage and think about being pitch-perfect for everything now. I can just go and play a show and not be singing for my life."
Anticipating what the future holds after his time on The Voice
, Pip jokes that going from 100 Twitter followers to "almost 33,000" really shows how far he's come since first becoming a contestant.
James Massone, the contestant Cee Lo eliminated on Monday, following his performance of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," gave off a less relieved vibe about getting the boot, but says his dismissal wasn't unexpected.
"I kind of had a feeling I was going to go, because I'm just kind of a laidback singer and that's not the way Cee Lo's team is," Massone told PEOPLE backstage after he was sent packing.
Acknowledging he "may not be good for this competition," Massone says it won't keep him from continuing to strive for a music career.
"I think I'll be good," he says. "The only thing I'm sad about is just leaving people, because we're so close. But I wouldn't take back anything."
