After a tragic accident and many difficult months, two former Biggest Loser contestants were able to relish a day devoted to celebration.

Sam Poueu, 27, and Stephanie Anderson, 32, exchanged vows at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in San Francisco on Saturday, PEOPLE confirms.

The bride wore a gown from White by Vera Wang from David's Bridal that she described on her wedding website as "meant for me." Stepping into it for the first time, she said she "wept tears of excitement, relief, joy and I felt like the most beautiful woman."

The groom and his party were clad in Black by Vera Wang tuxedos.

The former security guard and account executive met on the set of the NBC show in 2009, when Poueu weighed 372 lbs., and Anderson weighed 264 lbs. She accepted his proposal during a filming of a Biggest Loser episode in Oct. 2010.

In September of 2011, Poueu tragically fell from the roof of a four-story building and faced multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation.

"He said early on that he lived for me," Anderson said shortly after Poueu's accident. "He wanted to be married to me. He wanted to have children with me and grow old with me."

Anderson added: "To know someone fought so hard, not only for the family they have, but for the family they dream of – that's pretty powerful."

Poueu later went on to work as a trainer at the Biggest Loser Fitness Ridge Resort in Malibu, Calif.
