Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke Charvet has a famous friend to thank for inspiring her to be proactive about her health.
"As soon as I found out my friend Giuliana Rancic was diagnosed with breast cancer, I booked my mammogram," Burke Charvet, 40, tells Prevention in their June issue.
Adds Burke Charvet: "I called her from the doctor's office and said, 'Thank you for provoking me to have this done.' "
What's more, says the host, she learned that the often-feared procedure was actually not as bad as many might think.
"When I was finished, I said to the nurse, 'What's the big deal? There's so much negative talk about the mammogram,' " she says. "The biggest thing was scheduling my day to get there. The actual appointment was a piece of cake.
Rancic, 37, who is expecting her first child with her husband Bill Rancic via surrogate, underwent a double mastectomy in December following her cancer diagnosis.
