Skylar Laine gave it her all on Wednesday night's American Idol
, but when she was sent home over Hollie Cavanagh during Tuesday's elimination
, there were no tears shed.
"I'm just really relieved right now," Laine, 18, told PEOPLE with a smile. "No more stress."
Added the country singer, speaking to reporters backstage: "There's no pressure anymore. There's no pressure about songs anymore. I went out on a good note. I loved both the songs. I think I did [well] on both songs, and I'm very happy with both performances."
The Mississippi-bred songstress also says her dismissal didn't come as a shock.
"You can't be surprised – at all," she said. "You never know what's going to happen week to week, especially seeing all the weird results this whole past season."
In fact, Laine even suggested to Cavanagh that she'd likely be saved, even though she was a regular underdog.
"I told Hollie, 'I think you're going to be surprised," ' she said. "She thought she was going to go home. She was in the same place twice before, and she thought it was her time to go home. I just looked at her."
