Following Friday's death of Adam Yauch from cancer at 47, Madonna says the Beastie Boy rapper, who was also known as MCA, was one of a kind, and that the group was "integral to the musical revolution that was happening at the time," reports the Associated Press.
In addition, Madonna expressed sadness to hear of Yauch's death and asked God to bless his family.
The Beastie Boys opened for Madonna on her concert tour in the 1980s.
On Friday night on stage at the Hollywood Bowl, Coldplay played a sentimental tribute to Yauch with a rendition of the Beastie Boys' hit "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)." Frontman Chris Martin sang and played the piano.
"We're sending all our love to the Beastie Boys," Martin said afterwards, as the crowd cheered.
