Hollie Cavanagh may have been sent home
from American Idol
on Thursday night, but she seems to be handling her elimination better than her friend and fellow competitor Joshua Ledet, who cried as Cavanagh performed Miley Cyrus
's "The Climb" after the results were announced.
"I saw him crying, and he was like, 'I love you. I love you,' " Cavanagh tells PEOPLE. "I was like, I know. I don't know why that boy is crying. I'm gonna see him in a few days. Stop crying!"
As for herself, "I'm doing fine," she says. "You can't really complain when you're [in the] top four. … I'm just proud of myself at this point."
Still, Cavanagh admits that seeing Ledet's reaction started to play at her emotions, as well.
"You take this whole journey with people and then when you leave them, it's emotional even if you're gonna see them in a few days," she tells PEOPLE. "So, you know, I was fine, but then when I saw him crying I was like, 'Oh no.' Then I got all teary eyed. See what you did?"
Now that Idol
is behind her, Cavanagh says she's focused on the future.
"I have no regrets in this whole thing. I just felt myself getting more confident each week, and I'm learning every day, so it's been a lot of fun," she tells PEOPLE.
"Music is what I want to do for the rest of my life."
