The Real Housewives of New York City
are back! Well, some of them are back and some of them are gone
On Monday's season 5 premiere, viewers reunited with Ramona Singer, LuAnn de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan
– and got to meet newbies Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill and Aviva Drescher, and it didn't take long for the fireworks to begin – or to reignite in one case.
At Sonja's mixer to introduce the new women, LuAnn and Ramona picked up right where they left off on season 4, bickering about comments Ramona made about LuAnn's parenting style. The encounter made Ramona's heart race.
Later, during an awkward meeting at Heather's office, Ramona and the new Housewife attempt to find common ground but end up one-upping each other over business hours and recent and not-so-recent tragedies.
But Ramona invites Heather to her Hamptons home for a party anyway, where she planned to set up Sonja. Aviva also attend the dinner but LuAnn was not invited and Carole stayed in town to write. During the party, the burgeoning feud blooms when Ramona tells Heather she talks too fast and interrupts. And at dinner Ramona chastises Sonja for calling her ex her "husband" rather than her "ex-husband."
Back in Manhattan, LuAnn meets Aviva and Carole for lunch – and tells them the latest horrible thing Ramona has done. Turns out Ramona made a "disturbing phone call" to tell LuAnn that she "doesn't want to go down this road" of pursuing an apology about the discussions about their children.
LuAnn says Ramona said, "I know things about your children and I will tell the world." It's cryptic but with a little help from the ladies, LuAnn is pretty sure it's blackmail.
"Nothing will stop me from protecting my family from this horror," she says. And just like that, LuAnn takes off, leaving the new ladies (including late arrival Heather) feeling like they've been hit by a drive-by shooting.
And that's just the first episode. Based on previews, this season look to be more explosive than ever. But we want to know your take: Do you like the new cast? Or do you miss the good old days of Jill Zarin, Alex McCord, Kelly Bensimon and Cindy Barshop?
