"Lost dog!" the Irish Rail Tweeted on Wednesday morning, along with a photo of a Jack Russell terrier. "Boarded at Kilcock at 06.49 this morning, currently being looked after in Pearse Stn. Please ReTweet."

The dog, called Checker by Irish Rail employees (real name: Patch), boarded a Dublin-bound train along with morning commuters, who shepherded the pooch to officials when they arrived at Dublin's Pearse Station.

In 32 minutes, more than 500 users followed the Irish Rail's directive, and Patch's owner, Deirdre Anglin, soon Tweeted back: "That's my dog!" she wrote.

Patch had gone missing Tuesday night, according to the AP, and while Anglin had appealed to her own social network for help, it took the Irish Rail's more than 18,000 followers to bring him back to his owner.

"Great work all," the Irish Rail Tweeted, later sharing a photo of Anglin reunited with Patch.

"Patch seemed to enjoy his adventure, and was a very friendly dog," an Irish Rail spokesperson said, according to the BBC. "We also want to thank our customers on the train, and our Twitter followers. It was a great team effort, and testament to the power of Twitter."
