Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of former U.S. attorney general Robert F. Kennedy and ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was charged with driving under the influence after an incident on a Westchester Country highway Friday morning, according to reports.

Police said Kennedy, 52, was impaired by prescription drugs when she hit a big rig with her Lexus SUV and then fled the scene, according to the New York Post.

She was later found parked on the side of I-684 in North Castle, N.Y., and taken in for sobriety tests.

Kennedy was charged with misdemeanor driving while ability impaired and issued traffic tickets, police said.

New York's ABC affiliate, WABC-TV, reported that Kennedy had taken an Ambien sleeping pill.

Kennedy spokesman Ken Sunshine denied the charges. "Kerry Kennedy voluntarily took Breathalyzer, blood and urine tests – all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system," he told the Post. "The charges were filed before the test results were available."

Kennedy, the mother of three teenage daughters with Cuomo, is the sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose wife Mary committed suicide in May.
