According to a local Denver TV reporter, Bale was seen entering the hospital where many of the wounded are being treated.
One of them, Carey Rottman, posted a Facebook photo of himself with Bale at his bedside.
"Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Bros.," an assistant for Susan Fleishman, executive vice president for Warner Bros. corporate communications, tells the Denver Post.
"The patients were really happy to meet Bale," hospital interim president Bill Voloch was also quoted as saying. "They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman and were really pleased to see Bale."
Bale, who was in Europe with the rest of the cast to promote the film when news of the killings broke last week, released a statement Friday offering his condolences to the victims and their families.
"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," he said Friday. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
Twelve people were killed including a 6-year-old girl, and more than 50 were wounded when a gunman opened fire on the audience. James Holmes, the suspected shooter, was in court Monday in Centennial, Colo. He has been held in solitary confinement without bond.
