Connor Cruise is following his famous parents' footsteps into entertainment – as a budding young deejay, who showed off his skills this week in New York.
On Tuesday afternoon Tom Cruise's 17-year-old son took control of the deejay booth at American Eagle Outfitters' Fall 2012 "Live Your Life" campaign event in Times Square.
Despite the media frenzy surrounding his father's recent split from wife Katie Holmes, Connor looked calm and relaxed at the event.
He was "chilling," a source tells PEOPLE of Connor, who showed off his new mohawk and sported pair of black sunglasses while playing an eclectic mix of music including "Charlie Brown" by Coldplay, "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston and "Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap.
Another deejay – whose full name is Dalton Loughlin but professionally goes by "Dalton" – met Cruise at Tuesday's event and said he was impressed with the young music aficionado.
"[He is] just a cool kid; he seems really humble and he's got good taste in music," Dalton told PEOPLE. "A kid like this could become a good deejay."
