Off the red carpet and into the wild!

Brooklyn Decker recently embarked on a week-long journey to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska on a Sierra Club Outing.

While the actress visited the Arctic Refuge – which is America's largest and wildest refuge, roughly the size of South Carolina – she experienced wilderness at its core.

The Marsh Fork of the Canning River is one of the specific areas she visited, and it is so remote that less than 50 people a year visit.

"Getting outdoors has always been an important part of my life. Going on a Sierra Club Outing to the Arctic was an enlightening experience and gave me a chance to reconnect with nature," she says.

Decker, 25, went white-water rafting through Brooks Range, saw the Northern Lights, saw wildlife like dall sheep, caribou, red fox, rough-legged hawks and golden eagles in its native habitat and swam in a freezing Alaskan Arctic river.

"Anyone who spends time enjoying our planet knows exactly why it's important to protect places like the Arctic," she adds.

Since returning from her adventure, Decker has been focused on supporting husband, Andy Roddick, as he competes at the U.S. Open in Flushing, New York.
