Michael Strahan will join Kelly Ripa as co-host of Live!, the show announced Tuesday morning.
"It's time for a new era of our show to begin," Ripa said at the top of the hour. "It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the newest member of our Live! family, Michael Strahan!"
"I adore you and I am so happy to be here and be a part of this," Strahan, 40, said. "You know how they say it's a dream come true? I truly can't say that because I didn't even know I could dream this."
After more cheerful banter, Strahan said, "Let's have a seat," and pulled Ripa's chair out before sitting down alongside her in front of a new screen that read, Live! with Kelly and Michael.
The former New York Giants defensive end was the rumored choice for the spot left open last fall by Regis Philbin, who departed the morning talk show after 28 years on the air.
Ripa, 41, teased the big reveal on Good Morning America, dodging questions from Sam Champion while holding masks of other frontrunners for the job – Seth Meyers, Josh Groban and Neil Patrick Harris.
