Following a cheating scandal
that played out in the media, Kristen Stewart
is quoted talking about life in the Hollywood spotlight.
The October issue of British Vogue
(available Sept. 10) features an interview with the star, though it's not known whether it took place before or after her tryst with married director Rupert Sanders
The actress, who will soon attend the Toronto Film Festival
to promote the upcoming film On the Road
, is, however, candid about her public persona.
"I know if you haven't thought about how you want to present a very packaged idea of yourself, it can seem like you lack ambition," the 22-year-old actress says of how she's often perceived.
"But, dude, honestly? I can't. People expect it to be easy because there you are, out there, doing the thing you want and making lots of money out of it."
"But, you know, I'm not that smooth. I can get clumsy around certain people. Like if I were to sit down and think, 'Okay, I'm really famous, how am I going to conduct myself in public?' I wouldn't know who that person would be!" she continues. "It would be a lot easier if I could, but I can't."
Appearing on the magazine's cover in a Gucci dress, Stewart's glamorous look is a far cry from Marylou, the character she plays in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's largely autobiographical novel.
"The world back then, it just seems freer to me than anything I could ever touch and I'm fully nostalgic for it, even though I wasn't alive then," she says of the beat generation.
"It's the loyalty aspect of it all. I love being on the periphery with a group of people who have the same values that I do," she says. "People who don't get off on fame, who just like the process of making movies and thrive."
