From Kristen Stewart's cheating scandal, to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's sudden split and Prince Harry's nude photos, it's been a busy summer of celebrity news – and on Thursday, when Kevin Hart hosts the MTV Video Music Awards in L.A.'s Staples Center (8 p.m. ET), there's a good chance these could get a mention.

"The beauty of me being the host is you don't know what to expect," the comedian, 32, told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday. "Nobody is off limits. I think it's my job to put the room in a place where people can relax and have a good time. And the best way to do that is to show people they can poke fun at themselves."

Using former VMA host Chris Rock as example of someone who did his hosting duties well, Hart says, "He taught that it's okay to laugh at yourself. I think that's a great tone to put the VMAs in."

Adds the funnyman: "At the end of the day, nobody's perfect. And when people come in with their head all high as if they're perfect, that's when you've got to let them know they're not. You have fun – laugh!"

Hart already had the jokes coming, even commenting with a chuckle that Kanye West will be locked into his chair with a seatbelt, following his VMA antics from 2009, when he infamously interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech to tell the crowd that Beyoncé deserved the award instead.
