But when I saw Jessica shortly after she gave birth, she wasn't herself. Her body wasn't hers. I could see how uncomfortable she was in it. On one hand, she was the happiest I've ever seen her. She had the man of her dreams, a beautiful little girl, and an incredibly successful fashion business.
On the other hand, she didn't feel like herself.
The last time we worked together, Jess was lean and mean. She was playing a movie star-turned-soldier (a la Private Benjamin) in Private Valentine.
This time, she is playing a real life movie star-turned-mom – and ready to turn sexy starlet again.
Our first meeting was to discuss a plan of action. Weight Watchers had prepared a great eating plan for Jessica to follow, and I was responsible for sculpting and toning Jess through our workouts.
As it was too soon for us to start training, I suggested Jess start walking a little bit each day. I gave her a pedometer and realistic daily goals of 4,000 steps, then 5,000, and within weeks, she was doing 10,000 steps a day.
Full Steam Ahead!Once her doctor gave her permission to work out, Jess never looked back. We started with three days a week and shortly after, added a fourth day.
Our first workouts were approximately 30-45 minutes long and included a 5-10 minute cardio warm up, 20-30 minutes of resistance training and flexibility, followed by 5-10 minutes of cardio cool down. (See an example of one of our workouts below.)
We kept the movements simple. No gymnastics. No Olympic-style lifting. Some days we focused on shoulders, the back of her thighs, and the front of her midsection. Other days we would target the back of her arms, inner thighs and the sides of her midsection.
Most importantly, we made it fun!
Before Jess shows up to see me, she clips on her pedometer and does her morning walk with Eric and Maxwell. By 9 a.m. she's nearly halfway through her daily walking goal!
Those of you who saw Jess on Katie Couric's show, Katie, last Monday were undoubtedly as blown away by her progress as I was – and I see her nearly every day!
She's made incredible strides, but she knows there is more work to do. Unlike our previous work together, we're no longer prepping for a film, a music video or a photo shoot. We're training to make – and keep – her a healthy, hot mom. And that's forever!
