Singer Fiona Apple
was arrested in the Texas border town of Sierra Blanca on Wednesday night.
According to a press release issued by the Hudspeth County Shefiff's Office, the 35-year-old singer was found with .01 lbs. of marijuana and .010 lbs. of hashish after officers pulled over her tour bus and asked passengers to disembark when their dog "detected the presence of concealed humans and/or controlled substances emitting from the inside of the vehicle."
Apple "freely admitted that the controlled substances belonged to her and she was placed under arrest by U.S. Border Patrol agents and detained," the press release continues. Police officers arrived at 9:30 p.m., and she was detained in Hudspeth County Jail.
On Thursday, Apple posted $10,000 bond and was released from jail, police say.
The arrest was first reported by TMZ.com
, which also notes that similar drug busts involving Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Armie Hammer have taken place in the same town (population, according to the 2000 census: 533).
On Apple's Facebook page
, a Tuesday listing put the singer in Mesa, Ariz., where she performed at the Mesa Arts Center.
As one fan posted among the comments: "Friday in Houston! I'm excited." She was also scheduled to perform on Thursday night in Austin, Texas, but according to a post on her Facebook page
late Thursday afternoon, the show was postponed.
When reached, a rep for the singer had no comment.
