More than a year after Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he fathered a child after an extramarital affair with his family's housekeeper, the Expendables actor is telling his side of the story.

In the Schwarzenegger's new autobiography, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, he recounts the moment he admitted to then-wife Maria Shriver his relationship with Mildred Baena, the Daily News reports.

On Jan. 4, 2011, the day after Schwarzenegger, 65, left California's governor office, Schwarzenegger confessed in a therapy session.

"The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, 'Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child – whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred,' " he writes.

Schwarzenegger also reveals that the Jan. 4 exchange wasn't the first time Shriver confronted him about his relationship with Baena, but this time, Shriver, 56, had confirmed her suspicions with the family's housekeeper.

"I told the therapist, 'It's true,' " Schwarzenegger continues.

Schwarzenegger writes that while he knows he should have told Shriver about the relationship long before, he instead chose to "put the truth in a mental compartment" and "locked it up," he says. And for years, he writes, he tried to convince himself that Joseph, his son with Baena, wasn't his. But as the child grew older, his resemblance to the actor couldn't be denied.

"I realized there was little doubt that he was my son," he writes.

The 624-page book follows Schwarzenegger from his life growing up in rural Austria to eventually becoming a politician in California.
