Michael Urie loves the bright breakfast nook he created in his Hollywood home, but he's not alone. His Brussels griffon Sprouts loves kicking back there, too.
"One of the first things we do every morning is, I take her out. That's our deal," Urie says in the Hollywood at Home special in the new issue of PEOPLE, on stands now.
"Several times a week we get up early and go walk Runyon [Canyon]," he explains. "That wears her out. Then we come back and we have breakfast together."
It took time for the Partners star, 32, to gather the right mix of furnishings for the cozy space which he says was like a a "vampire's lair" when he first moved in. He commissioned his father to paint a sunflower mural on the wall above the nook, and adores the retro diner booth, scooped up from an L.A. Junk shop, that frames it.
"I looked everywhere and I could not find one," he says. "It feels custom, it feels like it was always meant to be here. It couldn't have worked out better."
Now Urie – who splits his time between his Hollywood home and a New York apartment he shares with his boyfriend, Ryan Spahn – says his inviting kitchen spot is perfect for entertaining humans, not just dogs.
"This is a great place for a small group of people to get together; I've had Domino parties before," he says.
Thankfully, Sprouts is a tidy enough pup to have been granted full-run of the rest of the roost, too. Says Urie, "She goes wherever she wants."
