George Wendt of Cheers Hospitalized with Chest Pains
Cheers star George Wendt is hospitalized with chest pains and had to drop out of a production of The Odd Couple in Chicago.
The actor "is getting medical attention and will eventually make a full recovery," Timothy Evans, executive director of the Northlight Theatre, tells the Chicago Tribune.
Wendt, 64, who played beer-guzzling Norm Peterson on the popular sitcom, checked into the hospital on Sunday.
He was to play Oscar Madison in the stage production starting Nov. 9. Wendt is a Chicago native and performed in the city's Second City comedy troupe.
“George is family to us at Northlight and we wish him well for a complete and speedy recovery," Odd Couple director B.J. Jones tells the Chicago Sun-Times. "He will be missed in the rehearsal room and on stage."
