How Snooki Is Helping Post-Sandy – and How You Can, Too

New mom Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi Tweeted Friday that she's sending "robes, slippers, sweats, blankets, everything" to some of the storm's victims, many of whom lost homes, cars and even family members in the disaster.
"I'm coming with clothes to keep warm!!! #sandyvictims," she Tweeted, along with a photo of bags stuffed with goods.
She also used her social media pull – she has nearly 6 million Twitter followers – to send information about need in Staten Island, telling people how to donate to the American Red Cross (text REDCROSS to 90999) and expressing her opposition to this weekend's planned New York City Marathon.
Are you looking for ways to help? Even if you're not in the tri-state area, you, too, can assist the victims of this tragedy. See below for ways to pitch in.
Give blood. According to the American Red Cross, need is great right now, as Sandy canceled 300 drives, leaving a shortage of 9,000 units of blood. Learn more here.
Donate money. In addition to giving to the American Red Cross via text, the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City is dispersing donations to local relief organizations in the Big Apple. Sites like ebay and iTunes are collecting funds, as well, and FEMA suggests giving goods or cash through the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. The Humane Society of the United States is raising funds to help displaced animals, too.
Shop. If you're in Manhattan – and you're safe and sound – a slew of stores will be helping recovery efforts this weekend. Barneys is donating 10 percent of all sales proceeds on Sunday to recovery efforts, in addition to making a $50,000 donation to charitable groups. Ferragamo is also donating a percentage of profits from Friday through Sunday to the American Red Cross. And also through Sunday, New York's Gilt City is donating 30 percent of proceeds from these offerings to the American Red Cross, as well.
