And now there are … a dozen.
Thursday night's episode of The Voice
revealed America's – and the coaches' – favorites from the previous nights of playoffs. And while the coaches were torn about sending their singers home, only three from each team of five could continue on to the top 12.
The night kicked off with Team Adam and Team Blake joining for a performance of Kelly Clarkson's
"Stronger." Then came the moment of truth for Adam Levine's singers. America saved Amanda Brown and Bryan Keith, but Levine struggled to make the next cut.
"I believe wholeheartedly in all five of my team members," he said. But when deciding among Melanie Martinez, Joselyn Rivera and Loren Allred, Levine couldn't let go of Martinez, praised so often by her coach for her unique vocals.
Levine then took to the stage himself with the rest of Maroon 5 to perform "Daylight."Blake Shelton
felt the pressure when it came time for his team's eliminations. "I'm so excited and sick right now," he Tweeted
. Terry McDermott and Cassadee Pope got America's vote, and Shelton kept Michaela Paige, leaving Julio Cesar Castillo and Liz Davis to pack their bags.
Team Christina and Team Cee Lo signaled the second half of the night with a group performance of Train's "Drive By," giving Christina Aguilera
a moment to collect herself before making her pick.
"Don't let anyone's opinion ever define who you are," she told her group of women. Believing that she needed another shot at showing her true talent, Aguilera chose Adriana Louise, and De'borah and Devyn DeLoera went home. Viewers saved Dez Duron and Sylvia Yacoub.
Trevin Hunte and Nicholas David made it through on Team Cee Lo thanks to the fans. "I respect each and every one of you as individuals," Green said when making his decision, but he said he would choose who had improved the most. That singer was Cody Belew, who beat out MacKenzie Bourg and Diego Val.
The top 12 performances air Monday, Nov. 12.
