is giving up-and-coming designers the chance to prove they have what it takes to dress the most fashionable stars
The "Diamonds" singer will be the executive producer of a new design competition series, Styled to Rock
, on Style.
"Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career," the pop star said in a press release from the network. "I am so excited to ... share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work."
Rihanna will handpick 12 contestants for the task of styling an A-list celebrity guest in weekly competitions. Whoever does the best job advances to the next week. Rihanna has also enlisted the help of fashion experts to mentor the contestants, but the executive producer herself might be the biggest inspiration of all.
"Rihanna is a trailblazer, a trendsetter and the epitome of style," Salaam Coleman Smith, president of Style Media, said in the release. "She has a powerful and unique point-of-view that transcends every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, and is a leading creative force."
The search for designers is already underway
for the show, which will air in 10 hour-long episodes beginning in 2013.
