The singer, 24, took home an award
for her James Bond
title song, "Skyfall" – and delivered what may be the best speech of the evening.
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God," Adele began as she took the stage. "Honestly I came for a night out – with my friend Ayda – we're new mums. I was not expecting this. Thank you so much," she said.
"Very strange to be here, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your world for a night, it's amazing – and we've been pissing ourselves laughing!" she said.
"I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press, I never thought I'd say that. And this is for my boyfriend who convinced me to do it ... and my lovely son. Thank you so much," she said, exiting the stage.
The Golden Globes mark the private singer's first public appearance since giving birth to a boy in October
"I am exhausted, that is how [motherhood] has changed me. I have eczema from boiling bottles," she told PEOPLE backstage after her big win.
The singer – who is yet to release the baby boy's name – says she has no plans to share him
with the world just yet.
"I am not sharing his name at the moment. It is very personal to me. I am enjoying him on my own," she says.
Since arriving in the U.S., the Grammy Award winner – who has been in Los Angeles since Thursday
