Elizabeth Smart is a smiling, married woman these days, but such a future was unthinkable for her in 2002.

Smart, 25, who has worked as an activist and ABC News contributor in recent years, was abducted from her home when she was 14.

Raped daily for nine months by Brian David Mitchell – a onetime homeless preacher – she was rescued in 2003. Her case drew national attention, and she is finally sharing her story – in her words – with the world.

In her memoir, My Story, the Salt Lake City native recalls the painful days and nights held in captivity by Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, when she was chained, dressed in disguise and told she and her family would be killed if she tried to escape. She also relives the moments where she was brought back to her family and saw justice served to her attackers, according to her publisher, St. Martin's Press.

Says congressman Chris Stewart, who cowrote the book out Oct. 8: "She has taken a professional outlook on this and is able to talk in an impressive way about these things frankly."
