Less than a week after German customs officials seized a capuchin from Justin Bieber, the critter seems to be taking the separation just fine. (Sound familiar?)

In fact, the monkey, named Mally, is in good company in Munich, where he's keeping close with his favorite stuffed toy at an animal shelter. But kissy encounters aside, we're thinking the monkey, Bieber's 19th birthday present, misses his human.

"Justin Bieber brought his monkey to Germany but had no official paperwork with him," Thomas Meister, spokesman for the customs office at the Franz Josef Strauss Airport in Munich, told PEOPLE at the time. "We were forced to confiscate the animal." The recently single pop star will reportedly be charged with a fine and the costs of the quarantine.

Bieber has a month to present German authorities with the papers needed to release the monkey, or the pet will stay in an animal shelter long-term, reports Reuters.
