It was an especially sad goodbye on Tuesday night's Dancing with the Stars elimination episode.

"I'm clenching my jaw because if [the tears] start going, they won't stop," Andy Dick, 47, told PEOPLE backstage after he and partner Sharna Burgess bid adieu to the dance floor. "We wanted one more week."

But before receiving big hugs from the reporters who were sad to see the pair go home, Dick reflected positively on his time as a competitor.

"We made it really far," he said, beaming. "I have to keep that in mind. Seven weeks is a long time. I'll miss that feeling of accomplishment every week. This is just so not what I do. Lasting this long at something that's not me is just so wild."

Aside from getting to know Burgess, Dick says the best part about the experience was tightening the bond with his daughter, to whom he dedicated a Viennese waltz during a previous week of competition.

"This brought my daughter and I closer," he said of the routine that brought tears to judge Carrie Ann Inaba's eyes. "We've had an up and down time, so the dance I did for her was the biggest and best gift I could have ever given to us. Not just [my daughter], but, like, me, too. It was so great."

Added the comedian: "Am I ever going to dance for her again? I don't know about that. But you have to dance at the wedding, right? Maybe I'll reprise that."
