Could Whoopi Golberg
's next project be opening a restaurant of her own?
host recently stepped out for lunch at Delmonico's in New York, where she got a behind-the-scenes look at how the legendary restaurant operates.
Goldberg took a tour with the restaurant's executive chef Billy Oliva – and even got a history lesson (Delmonico's, near Wall Street on Lower Manhattan's Beaver Street, has been dubbed America's first fine dining restaurant).
"She was in a great mood. After her tour, Whoopi posed for photos with the staff," an onlooker tells PEOPLE. "She even went into the kitchen to pose with the sous chefs."
Then it was time to eat: Goldberg indulged in the Delmonico steak, an all-natural, boneless rib eye, rich lobster Newburg and classic baked Alaska, made with walnut cake, apricot jam, banana gelato and meringue.
