After receiving a liver transplant last month, Lou Reed is on the road to recovery.
The former singer for The Velvet Underground, 71, underwent the life-saving surgery at the Cleveland Clinic weeks ago, the Times of London
reports. In the interview with Reed's wife, Laurie Anderson, she reveals the "Walk on the Wild Side" singer's condition was "as serious as it gets" and that "he was dying."
On Saturday, Reed posted a message on his website
about his health following the procedure.
"I am a triumph of modern medicine, physics and chemistry. I am bigger and stronger than ever. My Chen Taiji and health regimen has serve me well all of these years, thanks to Master Ren Guang-yi," he wrote, referring to a form of tai chi.
Making his last public appearance in March, Reed was forced to cancel five April performances, including two at Coachella, the U.K.'s Independent reported
But getting back on stage remains a priority for the musician, who wrote on his website, "I look forward to being on stage performing, and writing more songs to connect with your hearts and spirits and the universe well into the future."
