Beaches and thrillers go together like burgers and corn-on-the-cob, and these three aren't just empty calories.

Let us know what you think – and what you're reading.

Her Pick: The Dinner by Herman Koch

If you're looking for a book to spark debate among friends, this psychological thriller should be next on your list. Touted as "a European Gone Girl," it starts with two families meeting at a high-end restaurant for dinner and an uncomfortable conversation. Before long, you realize that the entire story rests on a bed of secrets and unreliability – all structured around this 5-course meal. I love books that keep you thinking, and The Dinner does not disappoint.

Her Pick: A Delicate Truth by John le Carré

I'm devouring John le Carré's latest. The guy is 81, and he's still got it. Filled with the usual mix of bureaucrat-turned-spy and British aristocrats and strivers, this novel is about a mission gone horribly wrong, and the cover-up, almost worse than the original crime. So well done, like all the best of le Carré. Did I mention he's 81?

Her Pick: Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight

Wow! I was pulled in after reading the first page. The book is basically about the relationship between 15-year-old Amelia and her hard-working single mom Kate, a lawyer. Amelia ends up dead and Kate tries to piece together what happened. It's sort of a thriller/prep school teen drama that is full of secrets.
