It's official!

Girl Meets World, the highly anticipated spinoff of the hit '90s show Boy Meets World, will premiere next year on the Disney Channel, Disney programming executives announced Monday.

Production on the new show – in which Boy Meets World's Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprise their roles as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence and newcomer Rowan Blanchard plays their 13-year-old daughter, Riley – will begin in Los Angeles this summer.

While filming the pilot this spring, Blanchard and her costar Sabrina Carpenter took to Twitter after some of Savage and Fishel's castmates from the original ABC show visited the set – including Rider Strong, who played Cory's best friend Shawn, prompting speculation Strong may join the new show's cast.

The actor added fuel to the fire last week at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, where he joined Savage and others at a reunion panel.

With all those familiar faces, how different will the new series be? At a press conference at ATX, Savage said that GMW will "honor the old show" while "trying to work in this new dynamic and this new time that we're all living in."

How's that for great news for diehard fans of the original series?
