Millions of adoring fans dream of seeing Johnny Depp in the flesh at the movies – and that dream came true Friday for stunned members of the Comanche Nation gathered in Lawton, Okla., for an advance screening of The Lone Ranger.

The newly-minted 50-year-old shocked the audience gathered in the parking lot of Carmike Cinemas when he strode on to the red carpet on the arm of his adopted Comanche mother, LaDonna Harris. Depp worked with the Comanche people to make his role as Tonto as authentic as possible, and paid tribute to them Friday.

"I'm proud to show [this film] to the Comanche Nation and members of the Indian Nations first," Depp said Friday, according to The Lawton Constitution, which noted producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski were also in attendance.

Depp's surprise appearance follows in the footsteps of Brad Pitt, who crashed screenings of World War Z in Hoboken, N.J., Atlanta, Chicago and, most recently, in Madrid on Friday, where he again stunned fans with an unplanned appearance.

The Lone Ranger, meanwhile, makes its official premiere on Saturday night at Disney's California Adventure.
