Customers Return $3,600 Stuffed in Taco Bell To-Go Bags

Kennidi Rue and pals Luke Postma and Grant Kruse have earned some good karma points.

The young Kentwood, Mich., Taco Bell customers could have easily made a vacation out of their approximately $3,600 findings in one of the fast food spot's drive-thru to-go bags – but instead, they returned the wads of cash to the restaurant.

"I opened my bag to get my food and it ended up being three bags of money – a lot of money – and then another wad of like a ton of twenties," Rue told local TV station WZZM in a clip that aired on Monday. "We added it up. We were like, 'What do we do with this now?' "

Added Rue, "Of course, initially, you want to keep it, of course. But then you're like, 'What's the right thing to do?' We were saying we'd never feel guilty about bringing it back."

With her friends by her side and in support of the decision to return the funds, one of them explained, "It obviously wasn't ours. It's not like we were losing anything in giving it back. So, we just thought we'd bring it back and just do it the right way."

According to the manager of a Taco Bell in Ohio, the accidental act of the Michigan employee – who apparently wept when the cash was returned – didn't come out of left field.

It is store policy for cash deposits to be placed in takeout bags before they make it to the bank. In May 2010, an Ohio Taco Bell employee made the same mistake and gave a customer a bag of about $2,000.
