to countryman Chad Kroeger, and it appears she succeeded, with a three-day celebration in the South of France in which she wore a black gown.
"I wanted to make sure it’s a crazy vacation and an experience of a lifetime for our guests," Lavigne, 28, told Hello magazine
of her July 1 nuptials at the Chateau de la Napoule medieval castle near Cannes.
"I wanted it to be over the top," she added. "I’m obsessed with castles and I love French décor and goth ... I found this castle in France and we visited it and it was perfect."
Before 110 guests, the singer walked down the aisle in a black tulle Monique Lhuillier gown before exchanging vows with Kroeger, 38, in a candlelight Gothic-themed wedding.
Her new husband, a member of the band Nickelback, tells Hello
, "When you've got that ring on your finger that you get to look at every single day, and you get to call that other person husband or wife, it's a really special feeling."
The pair got together last February when Kroeger contributed to Lavigne's latest album, Here's To Never Growing Up.
Kroeger sweetly proposed
last August – presenting his fiancée with an impressive 14-carat diamond ring.
