Randy Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is in critical condition.

The singer, 54, is "suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy," a rep for Travis said in a press release announcing he was admitted to the medical facility Sunday.

Best known for his hits "Three Wooden Crosses," "Forever and Ever, Amen," and "Diggin' Up Bones," Travis was celebrating his CMT Awards nomination just two months ago.

Prior to that he was making headlines for pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated in a case that began last summer when the country music star crashed his Pontiac Trans Am. He received two years of probation, a $2,000 fine and a 180-day suspended jail sentence.
