Forget the ongoing debate over healthcare. "Broccoli-Gate" is rearing its bushy, green head once again.

President Barack Obama rekindled the long-running presidential debate over the green veggie Tuesday, saying at the Kids' State Dinner – a luncheon hosted by First Lady (and healthy-eating advocate) Michelle Obama to honor children who won a contest by submitting healthy recipes – that broccoli was his favorite food.

The broccoli-brouhaha became a trending topic on Twitter, as people wondered whether the President was being honest or if his broccoli claim was really just a bunch of bologna.

"What kind of POTUS says his fav food is Broccoli?" President George W. Bush's former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer Tweeted. "Same one who in 2008 complained about the price of arugula at Whole Foods."

Mr. Obama has reportedly said that as an adult he has learned how to prepare vegetables in more delicious ways. Growing up, he noted, all his vegetables were boiled, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Broccoli-Gate originated in 1990, when then-President George H. W. Bush famously banned the vegetable from Air Force One, saying, "I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli."

In protest, a reported 20,000 tons of the vegetable were sent to the White House.

Perhaps the next President will love cauliflower.
