Heart patient Randy Travis is on the mend.

"His condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement," Dr. Michael Mack, one of the singer's physicians, said in a videotaped statement released Wednesday.

The country singer, 53, has been hospitalized since Sunday, having been admitted to the Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Tex., with "presumptive cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure," according to his other physician, Dr. William Gray.

Travis had been in "excellent health" until three weeks ago when he developed a viral respiratory illness, said Gray.

On Tuesday, Travis continued to be in critical condition following a heart procedure. An Impella device had been inserted via a catheter in hopes of stabilizing Travis for transit to another hospital offering more specialized care.

He is currently at the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano.

"On behalf of his Mr. Travis's family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received," Mack added.
