Model and musician Karen Elson has been granted a restraining order by a Tennessee judge against her ex-husband, rocker Jack White
Saying she "fears for her and her children's safety" as a result of her husband's alleged harassment, Elson claims in her affidavit for the order that White had a violent temper and sent her threatening texts and emails over custody arrangements for their two children, Nashville's The City Paper reports
White, a 38-year-old Detroit native who rose to fame with The White Stripes, is barred from having any contact with Elson, 34, "except as it relates to parenting time with the parties' minor children," the paper says, citing the court order.
"This pattern of husband's bullying wife into submission was a contributing factor in the demise of their marriage," the order says.
Married in Brazil in 2005, the couple, who live in Nashville where White helms his Third Man Records, divorced two years ago, even throwing a party
for friends to celebrate their then-amicable split. But they continue a custody dispute over who will care for their children, Scarlett
, 7, and Henry Lee
, 5, which have been in Elson's care.
Elson's attorney Rose Palermo is seeking a custodial psychological evaluation in the case. She tells the paper the couple had been working to settle the dispute privately. White's attorney Cathy Speers Johnson was not reached by the paper for comment.
The restraining order was issued July 22 by Circuit Court Judge Phillip Robinson. A hearing in the case was set for Aug. 29.
