And the next Oscars host is ... Ellen DeGeneres
The comedian, in fine form, confirmed her appearance via Twitter
"It's official: I'm hosting the Oscars! I'd like to thank the Academy, my wife Portia
and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra."
Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said they were "thrilled" to make the announcement Friday that their longtime friend will return to host the show for a second time.
"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity
," the producers said in a statement. "She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are."
DeGeneres, 55, who spends her days hosting her daytime talk show, which has earned 45 Daytime Emmy Awards
over 10 seasons, seemed excited about the opportunity, one of the toughest and most-criticized gigs in show business.
"I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time," she said. "You know what they say – the third time's the charm."
DeGeneres last served as host of the 79th Academy Awards ceremony in 2007. She is a Peabody Award winner and most recently starred as Dory in the Pixar animated feature film Finding Nemo
. She will reprise her role in the film's sequel, set for a November 2015 release.
The Academy Awards will be presented on March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Calif., and televised live by ABC, reaching more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
