has an explanation for why she was a no-show at the Venice Film Festival on Friday – she never said she was going to be there in the first place.
There was speculation that the rehabbed star had flaked out on walking the red carpet in Italy to promote her latest film, The Canyons
, after her director, Paul Schrader, told reporters
that he'd been "held hostage" for the past 16 months by his lead actress.
Describing Lohan as "very talented but unpredictable," he added, "She was supposed to be here today. She said she would be, but she is not."
But the 27-year-old, who completed a 90-day court-ordered stay in rehab
in July, says that's not the case.
"I was never confirmed to attend," she said in a post on her website on Saturday
"Of course I would have enjoyed returning to that wonderful city and being a part of this amazing event, but my focus is on my health and well-being," she continued. "Plain and simple it is of the utmost importance."
Lohan, who has been in rehab at least six times, has been ordered to attend
therapy sessions three times a week for the next 16 months to avoid relapsing.
