Meryl Streep looks absolutely bewitching, doesn't she?

The multiple Oscar-winning actress, 64, known for her stunning physical transformations on film, looks like she has, ahem, nailed another one as The Witch in this first look at her menacing turn in Disney's upcoming live-action movie musical Into the Woods.

Stepping into the role Bernadette Peters first played in the original 1987 Broadway production, Streep looks spellbinding in menacing talons and a matted gray wig as her character seeks to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored.

Sometimes macabre, other times humorous, Into the Woods is a modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows the adventures of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and his beanstalk, and Rapunzel, all tied together by an original story involving a baker, his wife and the witch who cast a spell on them.

The movie, based on the popular Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical, boasts an all-star cast that includes Johnny Depp as The Wolf, Emily Blunt as The Baker's Wife, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Christine Baranski as Cinderella's Stepmother and Chris Pine as Cinderella's Prince.

And how's this for a perfect holiday present: The film, directed by Chicago's Rob Marshall, is scheduled to hit theatres on Dec. 25, 2014.

Streep is no stranger to taking on film adaptations based on acclaimed theatrical productions: Next up for her is August: Osage County, the movie version of Tracy Letts's 2008 Tony-winning play about a dysfunctional Oklahoma family led by a sharp-tongued, eccentric dying matriarch, played by Streep, and also starring Julia Roberts.
