. There’s a new pop sensation ruling the charts.
Singer Lorde's debut hit single "Royals" has nabbed the top spot
on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
"It feels like a combination of my birthday, Christmas and washing my hair after a month of doing so," she told the music publication after learning her single reached No. 1. "[I'm] very, very grateful for everyone's love and kind words."
At 16, Lorde is the youngest singer to reach No. 1 on the U.S. charts since Tiffany with 1987's "I Think We're Alone Now."
The New Zealand native, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, wrote her bass heavy finger-snapping track while on holiday vacation from school. The single was released in June and has since sold nearly 1.9 million copies. She released her debut album, Pure Heroine
, on Monday.
