Here, the Mexican superstar shares her audition do's and don'ts for contestants.
Do: Stand out from the crowd.
"I'm looking for someone pure and fresh and unique," Rubio tells PEOPLE. "Someone with a sense of humor – a jewel."
Don't: Drop trou.
Rubio isn't looking for an exhibitionist. "Don't get naked," the pop star says with a loud laugh. Unfortunately, she adds, it's already happened on the show. "I don't know if you saw it, but there was a guy who was going to do it, and we were shocked. The three of us, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and I … this guy was going to take off his pants right in front of us! It was so crazy."
Do: Have fun and work hard.
"I think they should be enjoying the moment and be really into it," says Rubio. And they should bring their A-game. "They need to give everything they have once they get on stage, and once the music starts – they need to give it their all."
Don't: Show fear.
"They shouldn't be timid," Rubio warns. "Especially if they have this huge voice – they need to deliver." It's also important not to overthink it. "They shouldn't be very aware of whether they're doing it wrong or not."
Don't: Waste the judges' time.
Rubio's final piece of advice? Don't audition unless you have real talent. "They shouldn't be there if they're not 100 percent sure they have it," she says. "You need to be passionate. This is music!"
