When we think of autumn traditions, we usually focus on Halloween costumes and Oktoberfest beer gardens. But in the American Southwest, a tradition based on beauty and aircraft engineering trumps candy and drunken revelry.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a New Mexico tradition. It's a nine-day event where over 700 balloons take to the skies (making it the largest hot air balloon festival in the world), and 2013 was its 41st year.

Joel Schat from RoadTrippers.com was on hand this year to capture footage, and the result is this beautiful time-lapse video. Between the colorful balloons and the gorgeous New Mexico night skyline, it's the closest thing we've seen to a Pixar movie come to life.

You're going to want to full-screen this one.
