Twitter took center stage on The Voice's live results show on Tuesday when, for the first time ever, viewers Tweeted during the final minutes of the show to instantly save one artist in the Top 12 from elimination.

During the show, host Carson Daly slowly revealed the nine artists who would automatically become part of the Top 10. Eventually, only the bottom three remained on stage: glam rocker Kat Robichaud and Air Force vet Jonny Gray of Team Cee Lo Green, and New Hampshire vocalist Josh Logan of Team Christina Aguilera.

That's when the "instant save" kicked in. To cast their votes, Voice viewers were asked to Tweet the name of their favorite artist, along with the hashtag #voicesave.

So who went home and who stayed?

Despite predictions from coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton that Gray, 29, would make it through, Daly revealed that he garnered the least number of votes and was therefore sent home. That left Robichaud, 29, and Logan, 33, and after a pause Daly announced that Robichaud – who made Voice history the previous night for crowd-surfing during her performance of AWOLNATION's "Sail" – had been saved.

Green looked pleased, but minutes earlier he'd been unable to hide his frustration that two of his team members were in the bottom three.

"I'm a little pissed, man. I see the work and I see the importance of both of your presence here on the stage," he told Robichaud and Gray. "You both deserve to be here."

Now, only Robichaud and New Jersey high school songbird Caroline Pennell, 17, remain on his team. Team Christina is also down to two singers: dynamic 16-year-old Jacquie Lee and Yardley, Pa., college student Matthew Schuler, 20, who stunned the coaches on Monday night with a captivating version of "Hallelujah." His performance apparently impressed fans at home as well, who made it the number two most-downloaded song on iTunes.

Levine and Shelton both had a victorious night, as they saw all their teammates advance. Levine will move forward with two bespectacled indie rockers – James Wolpert, 22, and Will Champlin, 30 – as well as Jamaican powerhouse Tessanne Chin, 27.

Shelton will advance with his trio of men: "swamp pop" artist Ray Boudreaux, 25, and soulful, bearded musicians Austin Jenckes, 25, and Cole Vosbury, 22.

Yet despite his successful night, Shelton admitted to feeling a bit nervous at the start of the elimination show.

"Tuesdays are why I drink so much," he said in jest.

The Voice continues Monday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
